There's a civilization in Vaelora that doesn't conquer land. They conquer water. The Veyrin are two peoples bound into one nation — the sleek, nomadic otterfolk and the master-engineer beaverfolk — and together they built something unlike anything else in the world: a civilization where borders aren't drawn in stone, they're drawn in current. Their influence flows wherever water travels. Their capital city, Thalorion, sits inside a lake. Their laws are called Water Accords. Their highest philosophical principle? “Like water finding its level, truth emerges when all voices flow together without obstruction.” That's not just poetry. That's their constitution. Some gifts arrive at exactly the right moment. Alicia Ann Short sent me the Redwall Graphic Novel for my birthday, illustrated by the legendary Bret Blevins, and I genuinely sat with it for a while before I could put it down. The art. The composition. The way Brian Jacques' world breathes differently when it's told through sequential panels. Alicia has been part of the Sagas of Vaelora family from the very beginning. What started as fan art turned into an official collaboration, and now she's one of the most important creative voices attached to this series. She knew exactly what she was doing with this gift. Because yes, it's happening. We are developing a Sagas of Vaelora graphic novel: The Seed and the Silence. This book is proof that the format can carry the weight of a world like ours. Watching how Blevins translates Jacques' Mossflower into visual language, how each page breathes with personality, how even quiet moments hit differently in panels... It's fuel. I want to be upfront about two things before I share this. First: the images in this post are AI-generated concept mockups. I created them during development to work out the visual tone, page layout, and atmosphere of a project I have been building. They are not finished art. Not a single page of the graphic novel will be AI-generated. Second: I want your honest reaction before this goes any further. Here is what I have been working on. The Brightpaw Chronicles. A five-volume graphic novel series covering the full life of Merris Brightpaw, from her birth in Elderoot Warren in 2565 AV to the night she walked alone into the deep tunnels and did not come back. The story is told through the eyes of Fennec, an archivist writing ninety-five years after the Plague War ended, chasing a hero the Council tried to erase. "They gave Merris Brightpaw songs. I am giving her records." The finished book will be brought to life by the Merris Guard, the human creative team that has been with Vaelora from the beginning. - Kilson Spany leads the visual work. - Huynh Thy contributes alongside him. The other Merris Guard members will all have a part to play if we move forward with this. Every page will be hand-drawn by artists who know this world and care about it. What I want from you right now is not a pledge or a commitment. Just your honest take. Does this feel like the right way to tell her story? What part of her life do you most want to see on the page? I want to take a minute and talk about these people. Not as a team. As people. Huynh Thy. Alicia Short. Kilson Spany. David Potts. Emma K. Samuel. None of them were hired off a job board. These are friends. Brothers and sisters in Christ who saw something in Vaelora and decided to come alongside it, and alongside me, in ways that go beyond anything a contract covers. They have personally encouraged me through this process. They showed a faith in this project that honestly made me believe in it more. That kind of thing is the opposite of nothing. That is everything. I will be honest with you all. I tend to keep my focus close. Short-term goals, next step, what needs to happen this week. But some of these guys have looked further down the road and spoken things about where this world could go that genuinely surprised me. They carry a vision for Vaelora that is bigger than mine on some days, and I am grateful for that. I also want to be clear about something, because I think it matters: I am not the artist. The chapter art, the cover, the character portraits, the soundtrack, the framing work, the illustrations, all of that comes from real human talent. What I do with AI is build concept references and rough ideas. The Merris Guard is where those ideas actually become something. They bring the craft. I just build the scaffolding. So this is my dedication. Not to the book. Not to the world. To the people. And because I like to honor the folks who matter to this project in the way I know how...
